Cybraphon at National Museums Scotland

We are very happy to announce that Cybraphon our emotional robot band will be joining the permanent collection of National Museums Scotland. The installation will be unveiled at the museum on Chamber Street, Edinburgh during the Edinburgh International Festival with a special event at 2.30 pm on Wednesday 21 August. Book tickets here.

Cybraphon Returns to Inspace

From the 4th August to 4th September 2011 (Wed-Sun, 12-8pm) Cybraphon will be on display in it’s spiritual home, Inspace, Edinburgh as part of the Left To My Own Devices exhibition. Since it’s last time in Inspace a number of new songs have been added to Cybraphon’s repertoire including a collaboration between FOUND and Aidan Moffat (commissioned for the London Word Festival) and brand new compositions by Player Piano and Bernd Rest.

Cybraphon on Tour

From Thursday 7 – Wednesday 20 April Cybraphon will be installed in the Richmix Cafe as part of the London Word Festival. On the evening of 19 April FOUND will be joining Cybraphon at Richmix (along with a host of other weird and wonderful performers) for a night of entertainment entitled Man/Machine.

Then from Friday 22 April – Thursday 28 April Cybraphon will be resident in the stunning De La Warr Pavilion, Bexhill on Sea, as part of their ‘a nod to Cage’ John Cage legacy exhibition. FOUND will also be giving a performance on Friday 22 April as part of the De La Warr’s Random Fridays.

If either of these exhibitions are in your locale please pop along and antagonise the moody robot.

Cybraphon at Celtic Connections

Cybraphon will once again be heading west to Glasgow, this time for a one-night-only appearance on Friday 28 January, 2011 at Celtic Connections as part of the Celtonika event. Cybraphon has been given a recital room to itself and will perform all night long in the Old Fruitmarket, Glasgow. Come along and cheer or jeer at our infamous emotional robot curio.

There are also exciting plans afoot to take the moody, musical wardrobe down south for exhibitions in London and the De La Warr Pavilion, Bexhill on Sea. We will post more information on these exhibitions once they are confirmed.

Cybraphon Can Move

We said it couldn’t be done, but we’ve proved ourselves wrong . . . we have successfully managed to move the moody robot to the west coast of Scotland. It took quite some effort to carry Cybraphon’s heavy load up two narrow flights of stairs to its new resting place at the Studio Warehouse (SWG3) in Glasgow but amazingly there was no damage and the emotional wardrobe is full operational once more.

From Friday 16 April – Monday 3 May 2010 Cybraphon will be on display at the SWG3 in Glasgow. Admission is free, and the gallery is open from Monday to Saturday from 12 noon – 6 pm (late opening on Thursdays noon – 8 pm). Directions and more info here.

Cybraphon’s overshadowed, shadowy, creators FOUND will be launching the exhibition with at SWG3 free gig on Saturday 17 April, with support from De-Fence Records electronic heavyweights OnTheFly and the Radio Magnetic Sound System.

Cybraphon is resting right now. We are putting him through cold turkey with an enforced separation from the internet for his own good. We’re not entirely sure what his BAFTA glory will do to his ego, so we thought it best to keep him in the dark until his next outing at the Glasgow International Festival in the spring. In the meantime, however, we’ve been busy with the first of several guest composers visiting Cybraphon.

Bernd Rest has written a wonderful tango especially for Cybraphon. He has called it Triste Tryst, but his secret meeting with our moody robot was anything but sad. Listen to the results above. You’ll also be able to here the tango live in Glasgow next year – assuming Cybraphon is in the right mood, of course.

Cybraphon nominated for a BAFTA!

Today it was announced that Cybraphon is one of three nominees for the BAFTA Scotland awards 2009 in the interactive category. The winner will be announced at the awards ceremony on November 8th. Cybraphon is currently resting, and we’re not quite sure how he will react when he’s plugged back in!
